Microcontroller Control of Reactive Power Compensation for Growing Industrial Loads

Many industrial installations in developing countries start-up as small factories, without regard for the need of compensation reactive power, leading to significant financial losses long term. By improving power factor, customer can reduce its demand and potentially increase efficiency their equipment. A PIC microcontroller is used switch capacitor banks compensate power. In order determine size bank needed, calculates phase difference between voltage current. The results obtained based on lagging factor three test loads show an improvement from 0.52 0.96 under different load conditions.
